10 Alleged Ways to Wake Up To Work Out Feeling Like Cinderella
I am in quite the mood ladies and gentlemen. It’s a borderline content mood but winking over at bad mood. I am like the elementary school volcano packed with baking soda and food coloring just waiting for that silly 5th grader to add some vinegar. Why am I acting like a sour puss? Because I went to bed late and had to get up early to, you guessed it, RUN. Fun Fact: I'm real lame. I like to go to bed at 9:00pm because I really enjoy waking up feeling like Cinderella.
My schedule has been a smidge on the hectic side and finding time for after work training runs is impossible. So I think to myself, no problem I will just wake up early and run before work! Brilliant plan right? NOPE! Terrible plan! Mostly because I don't wake up. I somehow convince myself that not running is more beneficial than running. And I normally don't mind waking up early! I am a morning person! It's the whole not getting enough sleep paired with having to shower and blow dry my hair that really sends me over the edge.
There's an app I use called "sleep cycle" when I find myself having a difficult time getting up in the morning. What you do is you turn it on before you go to bed and place your phone face down on your mattress. The app monitors your movement and detects when you are awake, in a light sleep, deep sleep, or the coveted REM state. (What does REM mean? I thought it was a band, evidently I am mistaken.) So basically the phone monitors your sleep and wakes you up when you are in the lightest stage of sleep possible. This way you ALLEGEDLY wake up feeling energized instead like this.
I didn't get up to run yesterday and figured I should use my magic sleep app to try to get myself up this morning feeling Cinderella fresh despite the fact that I only got 5 ish hours of sleep. But this morning at 5:20am a strange noise that wasn't Beyonce woke me up. I woke up confused asking myself why am I in a Rain Forest and when I came to I realized not only was I not in a Rain Forest but it was already time to wake up and run. I immediately was all, "NOPE I am tired and sleep is very important to marathon training."
Then my good angel was like,
"Girl not only did you pull this yesterday, but you are going to pull it tomorrow and Friday. I'm not going to tell you how to live your life but you’re not taking this whole marathon thing very seriously. There are Mom's and Dad's out there going to bed later than you and waking up earlier. You are a baby."
And then I was all,
"Good try but I am going back to bed."
5 minutes later when I realized I wasn't going to fall back asleep I dragged my sleepy body out of bed, threw on some workout gear, slammed a banana in my mouth, and begrudgingly chose an interval workout since I wasted 20 precious minutes arguing with myself like a psychopath.
I’m glad I got up to run but I HATE working out before work! I am not a fan of showering in the morning! Mainly because I am still hot and sweaty from my run because I never have enough time to cool down. AND THEN when I blow dry my hair I can just feel myself sweating undoing all my shower’s hard cleaning work. BUT it needed to be done and I need to do it again tomorrow and Friday. So I need your help, how the hell can I get myself to wake up ready to run at 5:00 in the morning happily? 7:00 is no problem! 6:30 even I will wake up feeling like this-
But waking up at 5/5:30/5:45 I am like demon spawn! HELP Y'ALL! Everything I am finding online is ridiculous.
1. Go to bed earlier
Hello I normally do this! THIS IS PART OF THE ISSUE! WHAT IF YOU CAN’T GET TO BED EARLIER?!
2. Make It a Habit
BUT I DON’T WANT IT TO BE A HABIT! Or do I….hmmmmm OK this one I am back burner-ing.
3. Remember Why You’re Doing It
Please! I am well aware of the fact that I am training for a marathon. I will say this is the only thing that is getting me out of bed! It’s just not getting me out of bed feeling like a Princess.
4. Make a Date
My gym doesn’t offer classes so this is a no go…I mean, I belong to running clubs that meet for AM workouts but none of them fit into my schedule.
This is the worst. I reward myself enough, getting up early is not being added to the list. I mean if you need a reward then you do you, but I can’t afford to buy myself something special or eat something special just because I got my lazy (toned-ish) booty out of bed an hour or two early. And a marathon is a reward in itself.
6. Move Your Alarm Clock
I haven’t tried this…but if I move my alarm clock I can’t use my magic app…IS IT WORTH IT? We will try this tonight, will report back tomorrow. (Who’s we? I’m not sure.)
7. Make Friends at the Gym
What!? I have to talk to people? BUT THIS IS NEW YORK! If I wave at a stranger when I run they lunge at me ready to strike…
8. Prep the Night Before
OK this actually does help.
9. Tell The World About Your Plans
Yeah…I already blast the fact that I run, while I run. I’m not sure if I want to subject my peeps to the fact that I plan to do it as well….And I talk about it here-doesn’t seem to help.
10. Give It Time
