8 BEST Post Summer Run Treats
Summer is here which means it's hot as hell 24 hours a day 7 days a week. If running in a fiery inferno is your thing than let your freak flag fly. Mother Nature just brought us from bake to broil this week which means it's time to dig deep, throw out a few more mid run F bombs and swim through those muggy runs. To help motivate you through those hellish summer runs, here are 8 of my favorite post summer run treats --
Nothing says success like a crisp, cold and delicious beer. Beer is the perfect post run treat because it's delicious and refreshing. Enough said.
One of my favorite races, the Front Runners New York LGBT Pride Run, gives out huge Popsicles after you cross the finish line. Why is this the best idea ever? Because it's cold, sugary and a party in your mouth.
What's better on a hot day after a grueling run than the perfect combination of sweet sugary rum and refreshing mint? I'd fill my handheld with mojitos if I knew that wouldn't end badly.
I am a lover of a fruit smoothie year round but there's a special place in my heart for smoothies on a hot day. Throw some chia seeds or protein powder in there and you have our only truly healthy (and delicious) post run option on this list.
This needs no explaining. Sweet and sour, margaritas are always invited to the post run after party. On ice or blended, you literally cannot go wrong. (Unless you get it without salt. Then you're wrong. Gotta replenish those electrolytes right?)
Frozen Yogurt is like the mullet of the desert world. It's business in the front and killer party in the back. Healthy enough that you aren't like, "I probably shouldn't" and delicious enough that you're like, "No regrets." Fro-yo is a gift to mankind.
When in doubt, get an ice cream cone. Cold, sweet, soothing and unbelievably delicious -- a post run ice cream is something that will cool you off and top off your happy tank.
When all else fails, there is nothing more refreshing after a run than a chocolate milk. Also leaning towards the healthier column, chocolate milk has protein and stuff that is good for you. But if you're feeling really frisky, get a milkshake because LIVE YOUR LIFE!
Remember summer running is all about hydration so make sure you're drinking those fluids before, during and after your runs. And never forget to reward yourself after those sweaty summer runs.
