Q & A With My Coach Josh Maio

I'll never forget how confusing and frustrating it was to be a new runner. I thought running was simple! You just put one foot in front of the other and go as far as you can, right? NOPE. The more I ran, the more I started reading and soon, I was drowning in information. I had bitten off way more than I could chew and instead of feeling content with my new vocabulary, I was overwhelmed. Hill repeats? Yasso 800s? Fartlek and energy gels? What did it all mean and did it apply to me? The amount of information that was coming at me was overwhelming. Honestly, I still get confused when faced with conflicting information.

One of the reasons I was excited to bring on a Coach to help me shave 28 minutes off of my marathon time to help me BQ during the Chicago Marathon this year (New runners, I bet you're thinking "WHAT THE HELL IS BQ? Fear not, BQ means Boston Qualifying--the time you have to run to gain entry into the Boston Marathon) was so that I could have a go to professional who could answer all of my running questions in real time. Google is great but it gives me conflicting information from sources I don't always trust. My coach Josh is an invaluable resource and he has agreed to sit down throughout the BQ or Bust series and answer your running questions as well!
