Run to Eat
"How do I fall in love with running?" I could sit here and tell you about the confidence you'll gain and how running will change your life but I'm changing it up by showing you what will really make you fall in love with running...THE EATING! Let me ask you a question...
Do you like to eat food?
OF COURSE YOU DO! Who doesn't?!?
Ever heard of RUN TO EAT? Well I went ahead made some very handy info-graphics to break down just what you get to eat when you run a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon or Marathon. Now selfishly I tailored them to the amount of calories I have burned during my past 5Ks/10Ks/Half Marathons and Marathons but...you get the idea. Without any further ado here's what you get to eat when you run!
Let's start with burgers and beer shall we?
Now how about some big giant burritos and beer?
Tacos and coronas post half marathon? I'd call that EUPHORIC!
The King of all food....PIZZA! (DISCLAIMER: This one isn't as fun...In fact, it actually is sort of like being punched in your hope. I can easily eat an entire pizza on any given day...)
My goal in life is to do a "Cupcake Half Marathon" which entails eating a cupcake EVERY SINGLE MILE OF THE RACE! That's right. 13 cupcakes for 13 miles. That sounds like a perfect Saturday to me.
Are you a donuts lover? This one is for you.
CHOCOLATE AND WINE! Because who wouldn't want to run 26.2 miles so they could house 5 chocolate bunnies and a bottle of wine GUILT FREE.
Pumpkin pie lovers, this one's for you!
And finally ICE CREAM! Because there's nothing more delicious than ice cream.
Being a runner is sort of like being pregnant. You get to eat whatever you want but instead of being stuck with a human, you get muscles and an inflated ego.
There's nothing wrong with wanting to run to eat! People laugh when I tell them I run to keep my cupcake habit in check but that’s no joke. I don't understand why anyone would want a six pack when you can have cupcakes and cheeseburgers! Some people are really into eating clean, I'm into eating clean and then treating myself every once a while! Dieting is my least favorite word and honestly, that's why I love running. When you're a runner, it isn't about looking a certain way, it's about feeling a certain way. STRONG. You set out to put your strongest foot forward so yes, you eat accordingly but you also don't feel the need to feel guilty when you treat yourself. Because you've earned it.
When I decided to run my first marathon, I thought I was going to lose that final 10 (OK fine 20) pounds I convinced myself I needed to lose to be happy. Then I ran a marathon and didn't lose a single pound but realized that I didn't care how I looked because I felt incredible. I had done something that I truly thought was impossible and I was in the best shape of my life.
Running is an excellent way to stay in shape. You will definitely see some sexy muscles and possibly lose weight if you become a runner. But please God don’t run solely to lose weight because you will be miserable. And becoming a runner is hard enough. (Here's what you can expect.)
If you aren’t happy with the way you look, then make a change! It takes great courage to admit that you aren’t happy, so go you! But remember to do it for the right reasons. Don’t be a slave to the scale. Start slow and set realistic goals. Losing 20 pounds may not be a very effective goal, but setting a goal to run a distance race like a 5k, 10k, or half marathon is. Find something fun you can throw yourself into and do it to become stronger, not because you want to look more desirable. AND because you get to eat food! That’s just an added bonus.
Until next time, #RunSelfieRepeat.
