Introducing Squat, Selfie, Repeat!
Friends! Romans! Countrymen! LEND ME YOUR EARS! (Shout out to Shakespeare) I am incredibly excited to introduce the newest member of the Run, Selfie, Repeat family, my good friend Tara Lynn Gillfillan. She became a personal trainer and group fitness instructor in the summer of 2012 and has been sculpting bodies and spirits ever since. She’s an incredible fitness guru, hilarious, driven, spunky and caring and I am so excited to have her on board for DRUM ROLL PLEASE Squat, Selfie, Repeat.
I met Tara in High School back in San Diego. (Great memories right? Shudders.) We were both starring members (in our own minds) of the theater department and being loud was (ok is) our favorite activity. We both came to New York to pursue theater and have since found passions in the fitness world. (Tara’s is a tad more serious than mine as she became an accredited personal trainer whereas I take creepy pictures of myself sweating.) So it was a no brainer before registration opened for the Brooklyn Half Marathon to text her begging for her to run with me.
As Tara is training to run her first half marathon in May, I brought her on board to share her strength training wisdom with us. I can’t stress enough how important strength training and cross training are if you’re planning to run a distance race. And hiring a personal trainer is a luxury not everyone can afford (as much as I wish we could) so what better way to reap the benefits than to bring one on board to share with all of you?!? After I ran my first marathon the one thing I regret is not incorporating strength training into my regimen. It makes a world of difference. Don’t make the same mistake I did!
At Squat, Selfie, Repeat, Tara- who I have to warn you has been called a “Spice Girl Slave Driver,” will be sharing exercises runners and non-runners alike can work into their daily routines while motivating us to push harder and further. So like she says in her introduction (That you can read here) "whether you want to get in shape, make it around the block, train for a marathon or get bikini ready, I’m here to help, inspire, share my experiences and answer your questions!"
Stay tuned for Squat, Selfie, Repeat. I hope you’re as excited as I am; I’ve always wanted a personal trainer!
