5 Sexiest Parts About Summer Running

Summer is here and let's be honest, the sun is out to get you. Summer is my favorite season for a couple reasons -- it's acceptable to lay in a park and do absolutely nothing all day, barbequing is expected every weekend, weekends are spent at the beach or near a body of water and ice cream is basically a food group. And that's only the tip of the summer ice berg! If you are running this summer, here are the 5 sexiest parts about summer running:

Is it getting hot in here or is it just me? All joking aside, when it comes to summer running you really have to be smart. Only you can prevent dehydration, heat stroke and sunburns. (No seriously, this isn't a joking matter. Failing to stay hydrated and fueled during summer runs can be really dangerous.)  Here are my 5 must haves for summer running:

1. Handheld Water Bottle

I use this Nike Storm handheld because it has a huge 22oz water bottle. There's nothing I hate more than stopping every 3 miles to refill my handheld and this guy will get me at least 6-12 miles depending on the temperature. I opt for a handheld with a zippable compartment so I can carry by gels, electrolyte powders, credit cards and metro cards.

2. Sunscreen

Solbar sunscreen

Want to know the best sunscreen for summer running? It's Solbar Shield with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. It's water resistant, a little on the thick side because it actually works and it's basically the best sunscreen out there. Invest in it.

3. A Hat.

A no brainer, you should not be running without a hat. I wear cotton hats because I don't notice a different but most people opt for tech hats that whick sweat. They help protect your eyes (Don't like hats? Wear sunglasses!) and for me, keep the top of my head sunburn free.

4. Lululemon Sculpt Short

I can't wear normal running shorts because my thighs chafe until kingdom come. I figured shorts just weren't in the picture for me until I found these precious gems from Lululemon. I have them in 3 colors and they are my favorite things in the world. I'm so obsessed with these shorts it's embarrassing.

5. BodyGlide Anti-Chafe Balm

See that picture on the left there? That is why need to rub your body down in BodyGlide. WELCOME TO SUMMER RUNNING AS A WOMAN. That was only after 11 miles too! Just rub chafe cream everywhere all the time.
