Finding Ways to Give Back

Be the change you wish to see in the world. How many times have you told yourself you wanted to be more charitable but didn’t know where to start? Start with yourself! Last year was the first time I did something directly for a charity and it scared the crap out of me. Committing to raise over $2600 to run the NYC Marathon with Team for Kids was paralyzing. I was convinced I wouldn’t be able to do it. I was terrified friends, family, and internet strangers would be annoyed with my efforts. None of that was true and it ended up being not only rewarding but fun.

I don’t do enough for others. I need to take time to do more to help people wherever I can. Sure I donate to a friend’s marathon fundraising charity efforts here and there; I give $5 or $10 to charities I believe in like EveryTown and Planned Parenthood, but helping others goes much further than giving the only $5 or $10 I can spare. Donating time and donating the stuff I don’t use are the next steps.

Want a perfect way to help others today? SIX:02 has teamed up with Goodwill for a campaign called #DontSweatYourPants. They are asking you to donate your gently used athletic pants that either don’t fit, don’t flatter, or don’t perform and in exchange will give you a $10 off discount to buy a pair that does. And it doesn't stop there, by getting social and sharing your best workout pictures with the hasthag #DontSweatYourPants you could win a $100 SIX:02 gift card. It doesn’t get any better than that.

As a top women’s fitness retail destination, SIX:02 knows the importance of the perfect fitting pant that makes women feel as good as they look.

SIX:02 is introducing #DONTSWEATYOURPANTS, a campaign encouraging women to donate the pants that no longer make them feel their best, and in return, find a pair of Under Armour that look, fit and perform great.

Beginning December 26th through the end of January, drop any pair of gently-used pants at your local SIX:02 store (For locations CLICK HERE), where they will be donated to Goodwill Industries, and receive $10 OFF A NEW PAIR OF UNDER ARMOUR PANTS!

Don’t live by a SIX:02 location? Donate anyway! Don’t wait until Spring to do some Spring cleaning! Go through your closet, find the clothes that you don’t wear and donate them to someone who will. When I first started running I stupidly bought a few pairs of running pants that were way to small thinking because I was now a runner I would lose weight and fit into them. That didn’t happen. They’ve been worn once or twice and tonight they are being donated. It's time to clean out my entire closet of everything I haven’t worn at least once in the last 6 months and donate it to Goodwill. (In New York space is hard to come by so the fact that I’ve waited this long to part with the clothes I don’t wear is a little ridiculous.)

So here's to a finding ways to help others and being the change we wish to see in the world. What are some of the ways you give back to your communities? Let me know in the comments section below, I need to make this a monthly goal. To give back, contribute, and help others more often.

Until tomorrow, #RunSelfieRepeat.
