The Cherry Blossom 10 Miler
Hi friends! I know, its been a while since I've taken the time to actually talk about my life and what exactly has been going on. A lot has happened since I got back to New York City. You may have noticed a few videos about my trip down to Washington DC for the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler. Confused? I decided to push myself to start vlogging! Let's start in the beginning...
I love being able to share bits and pieces of my adventures with all of you but I've never felt confident enough to put a camera in my face, break that fourth wall and actually vlog. Turns out, I'm really self conscious about walking around with a camera in public! I've wanted to create more videos for a while now but I've been too afraid to take that leap of faith and actually do it. The truth is, I love storytelling. It's what drove me towards theater and being able to see how someone else lives their life or what they've gone through hand overcome is fascinating and exciting to me. I love the idea of walking a mile in someone else's shoes and I finally realized what better way to do that than to actually run a mile in their shoes?
This year is all about getting stronger and one thing that I really want to work on is moving past my fear of being judged or worrying about what other people think about me. I'm a confident lady, don't get me wrong, but I still invest a little too much energy in what other people think. So that is why I've started vlogging, to push myself to be vulnerable and honest in a different medium.
In part 1, we leave NYC and I wanted to introduce you to Casey and Melissa. We talked a little about our road trip goals so you could get a feel for who they are and how the trip was going to play out.
In part 2, we get our hearts broken by $20 pretzels at the Maryland House.
In part 3, we take some more time to get to know Casey and Melissa and have our first morning in DC.
One of the only things we wanted to do in DC was go to this Trampoline Park called Flight. (I know, we're in DC we should see the sights and the museums. But we really wanted to go to this trampoline park!) We drove all the way out to the suburbs and then found out that we weren't in because we didn't have children. It was pretty upsetting.
Part 5 is, without a doubt, my favorite video of the vlog thus far. We were hanging out by the Lincoln Memorial when we started watching these two dudes try to get the perfect selfie. Literally 10 minutes and dozens of photos were taken before they moved on. It was 10 of the greatest minutes of my life and I feel truly blessed to have been able to witness it. These guys are my heroes.
In part 6, we ride bikes and try not to die.
Part 7 is the main event, RACE DAY! The night before the race was NUTS. It was so windy that the power went out. I wasn't prepared for the weather AT ALL. I didn't bring any throw away clothes and I assumed it was going to be 50 degrees. All in all the race was fun. A little crowded and cold for my liking but we had a good time. (AND I got to run with my good friend Anne which was a real treat.)
Part 8 is pretty hilarious because I gave Melissa a camera to document what it's like on the spectating side. Once I finished, I ran back to Mile 9 to the November Project DC cheer station to cheer on the rest of the runners. We stayed there until the very last runner ran by and we actually ended up getting onto the much feared sweeper bus! Turns out, the struggle bus isn't something to be feared...it's a party bus!
And last but not least, part 9 is the return back to the city. We give the Maryland House a second chance, discover Melissa doesn't lie and talk about the things we want to do before we die.
My life is about to get pretty crazy again. I'm headed to Boston this weekend for my very first Boston Marathon! I've never been to a Boston Marathon before so I'm really, really excited. I'll be taking over Women's Running's Snapchat on Saturday and their Instagram on Sunday so keep your eyes peeled for some behind the scenes action! If you're in Boston on Tuesday, Women's Running is hosting a pretty amazing event with Bobbi Gibb to celebrate her 50th anniversary of running the Boston Marathon. CLICK HERE for details.
My life gets pretty crazy from there! I'm traveling to Mexico, LA, New Hampshire and Boulder within the following 6 weeks! It's going to be a lot of adventuring but I can't wait to bring you all with me! If you haven't already, take a second to subscribe to my YouTube channel to stay up to date on all the vlogging action!
Until next time, #RunSelfieRepeat.
