When I Can’t, Became I Did!

I embarked on a crazy journey to accomplish my first marathon a few years ago. It was a bucket list item of mine. When I first submitted my payment for the race, I was so excited and quite nervous.

Training started out well during summer. I was off (I’m a teacher) so I had time. But once school started, my training started to suffer. My best friend was running with me and she was struggling too.

As the race neared, we contemplated whether we could do this. After a couple of weeks of going back and forth, we decided to go for it. We knew it would be hard, but we knew we could do it.

Race day came and we were pumped! The first 13.1 miles were great. On pace for us. Around mile 20, we were feeling pretty good but felt a decrease in energy and mind starting to happen.

I began to doubt that I could finish.

Everything hurt so bad. My friend kept pushing on, which helped keep me going. Around mile 24, I was hyperventilating. Once I caught my breath, I found it in me to get it done. I knew I could do it. My husband and son found us and they ran with us to the finish. My I can’t, turned in to I can. And I did! 26.2, baby.
