Hi Gang! I'm Rebecca, and I've been leading BALG Ottawa since March 2019! I grew up in the suburbs and was never a very athletic kid (I was more the bookworm/band geek type, though I loved playing hockey). Over the years I would periodically try running with friends, but it never stuck. That all changed in 2015 when I was desperate enough to actually start looking forward to it as a predictable discomfort and outlet for grief. Since then, I've run marathons in 5 different countries (yes, I love traveling!), and a 50K in Squamish, BC. I have come to love running, and the feelings it brings (no longer just discomfort, but also joy, confidence and accomplishment).

Favorite Part about BALG
As a back-of-the-pack runner, Run Clubs were always intimidating and daunting to me. Even as I made connections and friends in the running community, I was hesitant to join in. What I love about the Badass Lady Gang is that Everybody is truly welcome. I've been struggling with injury for the last two years, and have not been running much in the last year, but I think it's important to show that even Badasses have setbacks! These days I've been doing a lot of spinning, and walking dogs - dogs on leash are always welcome to join our meetups!

I am a Librarian by day, Group Fitness Instructor by night, and aspire to do more needle felting this year! I grew up on a bee farm in Greely and have lived in Ottawa most of my life. I currently live in Mechanicsville with my Cicerone partner and many, many plants. My running journey began as an on-again, off-again runner for several years before discovering Ottawa’s running community. I learned to stick to my running goals with the help and support of run groups, including Badass Lady Gang Ottawa.

I’m looking forward to re-connecting with the Badass Lady Gang Ottawa and promise to bring candy to share!

Favorite Part about BALG
being a new runner was scary and intimidating, but the Badass Lady Gang is a smiley, supportive group and welcomed me. A few years later, I’m now hooked to the benefits of running, especially its positive impact on my mental health.
